Searching the Chilton County Court Docket
Alacourt ACCESS V2.0 is the main remote door to Chilton County court records. The Alabama Judicial System also calls it Trial Courts, Just One Look. One subscription covers a wide range of dockets. That includes Circuit and District criminal, civil, small claims, state traffic, domestic relations, and child support. It is not free. A name or case-number search costs $9.99 and includes one case detail. Each later case detail after a name search costs the same. Images, where offered, run $5 for the first 20 pages. After that they cost $0.50 per page.
Know your court and case type first. A municipal ticket or a probate file may sit outside ACCESS entirely. The portal itself warns that some cases never appear there. So treat the Chilton County Circuit Clerk, the municipal clerk, or the Probate Office as the way to confirm what the paid docket search misses.
- Identify Circuit, District, municipal, or Probate Court before paying for a search.
- Search ACCESS by a party name or a known case number.
- Review the Case Action Summary, settings, rulings, parties, and costs that are available.
- Confirm a current hearing with the correct clerk division if any date is in doubt.
- Ask the record custodian for a plain or certified copy when the portal report is not enough.
ACCESS Fields for Chilton Dockets
The statewide Search Docket form doubles as a calendar tool. Pick Chilton as the county and set a hearing date. Last Name stays optional. Leave it blank and the portal is described as returning the whole docket for that county and date. It still cautions that some matters can be missing. Before you pay, the search does not publish its date range, update cycle, wildcard rules, or result fields.
| Field | Required | How to Use It |
|---|---|---|
| County | Yes | Select Chilton for a Chilton County court docket. |
| Setting Date | Not stated | Choose the date being checked. |
| Last Name | No | Enter a surname or leave blank for the selected date's docket. |
The official Search Docket interface stands apart from AlaFile, which takes filings, and from the subscriber Alacourt system. Each tool does its own job.
Inside a Chilton County Court Docket
Alabama's official chronological form is the Case Action Summary. Its central columns read Actions, Judgments, Case Notes. From that timeline you can see when a pleading was accepted, when the judge acted, when notice issued, and how the case ended. But the docket is not every paper behind those entries. A complaint, motion, order, or judgment is a filed document, while a certified copy is a clerk-authenticated version kept for when formal proof is needed.
| Case identity | Court level, county, case number, caption, and parties. |
|---|---|
| Participants | Attorneys, judge identifier, and other roles that apply to the case. |
| Settings | Calendar and trial dates recorded as part of the case history. |
| Chronology | Dated actions, judgments, and case notes. |
| Outcome | Orders, judgments, pleas, dismissals, or other recorded dispositions. |
Chilton County publishes no official public syntax for its case numbers. So do not guess a prefix. Copy the number exactly as it appears on a notice or citation.
Three Alabama Docket Systems
AlaFile, AlacourtPlus, and Alacourt sound alike. They serve different users. AlaFile takes electronic filings from licensed Alabama attorneys and registered self-represented people or businesses. AlacourtPlus is the processing side for clerks and judges. Alacourt.com and ACCESS sell read-only trial-court information. A filing that moves through AlaFile does not become a free public image.
| System | Main Function | Public Search Role |
|---|---|---|
| AlaFile | Electronic filing and service | Not the ordinary public docket search |
| AlacourtPlus | Clerk and judge processing | Internal workflow |
| ACCESS / Alacourt.com | Paid read-only records | Case reports, settings, and some images |
That split explains a common frustration. A Chilton County court docket can be fully electronic and still sit behind payment or a clerk request.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Chilton County
Pick the jurisdiction before you pick a search box. Circuit Court is the county's general-jurisdiction trial court. It hears felonies, family matters, larger civil disputes, and appeals from lower courts. District Court handles misdemeanors, state traffic, small claims, juvenile cases, lower-dollar civil suits, and the early stages of felony cases. Municipal courts keep city ordinance and city traffic dockets. Probate records stay with the separate Chilton County Probate Office.
| Court | Docket Covers | Record Keeper |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit Court | Felony, family, major civil, and lower-court appeals | Chilton County Circuit Clerk |
| District Court | Misdemeanor, state traffic, small claims, juvenile, and district civil | Chilton County Circuit Clerk |
| Municipal Court | City ordinance and municipal traffic matters | Municipal court clerk |
| Probate Court | Probate proceedings | Chilton County Probate Office |
One felony can leave preliminary District entries before any Circuit case begins. An appeal likewise opens a new Circuit layer instead of merging every lower-court entry into a single record.
Chilton County Docket Workload
The Alabama Administrative Office of Courts tracks filings statewide. It counted 8,234 combined Circuit and District filings in fiscal year 2023. Circuit Court received 1,803 filings and disposed of 1,895 matters. Its docket split into 60 percent criminal, 17 percent civil, and 23 percent domestic. District Court received 6,431 filings and disposed of 6,578. State traffic made up 49 percent of District filings. That is the county's largest single docket stream.
These figures show the scale and mix of Chilton County court docket work. They do not measure how long a case takes. Nor do they prove every filing is visible online.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
Chilton County posts no public daily or weekly docket PDF. The dependable remote route is the paid Search Docket form. Then call the clerk. A purchased ACCESS report may also list court setting dates. Treat an older date as history until the court confirms it. A later notice, order, continuance, or reset can control instead.
The clerk issues the notices for scheduled hearings and trials. So call the division that owns the matter. Circuit Criminal is option 2 on the main line. Circuit Civil is option 4. District Criminal is option 1, Small Claims and District Civil option 3, and family or child-support matters option 5. Juvenile staff give no case answers by phone. Municipal and probate settings sit with their own offices. The full Chilton County court dates process lays out the fallback chain.
When attendance matters: confirm the setting with the court, not only an old printout or saved search result.
Missing Chilton County Docket Results
A blank ACCESS result is not proof that no case exists. Check the spelling first. Then re-check the case number and the court that should hold the file. Municipal and probate matters sit with separate offices. A felony can leave activity at two trial-court levels. Older working files may also sit under retention rules that treat them differently from the permanent parts of the record.
When the court and search terms look right, call the clerk division that matches. Ask whether the case is missing from electronic access. It may sit stored only in an older format, or be closed off by law or court order. For an open Circuit or District file, the courthouse counter is the next stop. Ask whether a mailed or faxed request works before sending money. Chilton County publishes no general request form, no email address for requests, no payment list, and no standard turnaround for copies.
Juvenile records are different. Chilton seals all juvenile records. Staff will not discuss those cases by phone, and an eligible person must come in person with valid identification.
Chilton County Docket Terms
Plain terms keep a current setting apart from an older event. Alabama posts no Chilton-specific abbreviation list. So confirm any unexplained local code with the clerk instead of guessing at its meaning.
- Case Action Summary
- The dated chronology of actions, judgments, and case notes.
- Setting
- A date and time assigned for court activity.
- Continuance or reset
- A move to a later date; the old date can remain in the history.
- Disposition
- The recorded result or status that resolves a charge or claim.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the clerk for formal use.
A docket entry only indexes activity. It may not carry the full text of the filed paper, and an ACCESS image is not the same as a clerk's certification.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Alabama court records are open to inspection and copying. A statute, rule, or court order must say otherwise. Openness does not mean anonymous or free online access. Chilton County court docket reports can require payment, and images cost extra. Family content, protected identifiers, juvenile files, and sealed material may stay out of public view.
Key access rules:
Alabama Court-Record Privacy Rule 104 sets the general right to inspect and copy court records, subject to legal limits.
Rule 202 limits the display of Social Security, taxpayer, and financial-account numbers in filings.
Rule 301 requires a hearing and written findings before a court seals material under its listed grounds.
Ala. Code sections 36-12-40 and 12-15-133 support public inspection while protecting juvenile legal and social records.
The test never changes. Find the office that holds the record, ask for the open portion, and get official copies from the clerk or court.
Chilton County Docket Records Over Time
The current courthouse went up between 1960 and 1962. Alabama's court records now span paper files and electronic systems side by side. One case file can hold pleadings, docket sheets, Case Action Summaries, motions, and orders. Retention rules do not treat all of these alike. Circuit civil, Circuit criminal, and domestic files are permanent. District civil and small-claims working files generally run ten years after disposition. Permanent judgments, party indexes, and Case Action Summaries keep the core facts. Many non-DUI traffic and District criminal files have shorter periods. Stated exceptions apply. The Alabama Judicial System overview shows the statewide structure behind these local dockets.
The state portal points you toward trial-court tools. Even so, the Chilton County Circuit Clerk keeps the official local record.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
Nick Burnett is the current Chilton County Circuit Clerk. His office serves as record keeper and business manager for Circuit and District proceedings. It maintains pleadings and collects fees. It also prepares subpoenas, issues hearing and trial notices, and safeguards the court record. Divisions matter here. Civil, criminal, domestic, traffic, juvenile, and small-claims files each route to different staff.

Chilton County Court Docket Copies
A plain copy serves reading and reference. A certified copy carries the clerk's authentication. Chilton County posts bundled charges that differ on their face from an older statewide fee-distribution sheet, so trust the current local customer-facing page for the quote. Confirm the total and the accepted payment method before you send any copy request.
| Record Item | Current Posted Charge |
|---|---|
| Plain copy, up to 20 pages | $5.00 |
| Certified copy, up to 20 pages | $7.00 |
| Each page beyond 20 | $0.50 |
| Additional certificate of judgment | $6.25; first certificate is free |
The county posts no exemplified-copy fee, request form, turnaround time, or email address for copy orders. A hearing transcript is a different product anyway. The court reporter makes and transcribes the word-for-word record; the clerk keeps the case file.
District Court Dockets in Chilton County
District Court handles misdemeanors, state traffic, small claims, district civil matters, juvenile cases, and preliminary felony activity. A state traffic ticket routes to the Circuit Clerk's Traffic Division. A city-issued citation stays with that municipal court. Small Claims and District Civil use option 3 at the main clerk number. District Criminal uses option 1. Traffic instructions sit on a separate local court page. Check there if the phone prompts conflict. The official Chilton County District Court page shows the court level and its role.
The District Court route matters. Traffic alone formed nearly half of its reported filing load, and those state cases never belong to a city clerk.
Chilton County Court Dockets by City
Municipal courts keep their own city ordinance and municipal traffic records. In the 2020 Census ranking, Calera comes first by whole-city population. Only part of Calera lies in Chilton County. Clanton is the county seat and the largest city centered in Chilton. A city address alone does not pick the court. Read the citation or notice for the issuing court. Then use the city clerk for a municipal case. For a state, District, or Circuit matter, use the Chilton County Circuit Clerk.
Calera Docket Search
16,494 citywide in 2020. Calera spans Shelby and Chilton Counties, so venue must be confirmed.
Clanton Docket Search
8,768 in 2020. Municipal records and county courthouse records have separate custodians.
Jemison Docket Search
2,642 in 2020. The municipal court publishes detailed hearing and citation procedures.
Thorsby Docket Search
2,064 in 2020. City Hall is the first fallback for municipal calendar questions.
Maplesville Docket Search
637 in 2020. Its portal supports citation-number or birthday search modes.
Under Alabama procedure, municipal and District convictions may be appealed to Circuit Court. That appeal adds a new court layer; it does not erase the city docket.
Confirming Chilton County Docket Facts
A purchased case report works best as an index and a chronology. Treat it as a map, not a promise that every filing is online. When a setting changes, confirm the new court date. Pull the latest order or the clerk's notice. A matter that seems missing is often just misspelled. Check the name, court, and case number before assuming the record is sealed. Need an official outcome, a certified judgment, or the complete file? Contact the office that created the record in the first place.
Federal cases in Chilton County take a different route. They belong to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Dockets there live in PACER or that court's CM/ECF system rather than Alacourt. Bankruptcy goes through the Middle District Bankruptcy Court. State appeals move up through three courts. The route depends on the subject matter. It may be the Supreme Court of Alabama, the Court of Civil Appeals, or the Court of Criminal Appeals. Keeping these systems straight saves real time. A valid case can look absent simply because someone searched the wrong docket.
Map and Directions to the Chilton County Courthouse
Circuit and District Court files are kept at the Chilton County Courthouse, 500 Second Avenue North, in Clanton, the county seat. Presiding Circuit Judge Amanda Baxley's office is listed at this courthouse, though the multi-county 19th Circuit's other Circuit Judges keep chambers in Wetumpka and Prattville; that regional structure explains why a judge's office may sit outside Chilton even though the case file stays in Clanton. The current building was constructed from 1960 through 1962, designed by Charles H. McCauley and Associates of Birmingham, and cost more than $700,000.
